The most common concern for partnered-up people looking to attend their first play party, or explore ethical non monogamy (ENM) in other ways, is: what if I feel jealous? Singles are not immune to the "green eyed monster", either, whether that's fearing a dynamic of jealousy between a couple/the people they might play with or experiencing the emotion themselves.

Jealousy is presented throughout our culture as among the nastiest of emotions, even capable of inspiring murder; definitely something to fear and avoid. The assumption of jealousy on seeing one’s partner sexually involved with someone else is so strong that this is the scenario jealousy researchers typically ask participants to imagine.

Yet people experienced with ENM report working in a healthy way with jealousy, rather than never feeling it or seeking to suppress it. They also describe the other end of the spectrum, compersion, where one derives joy and pleasure from seeing their partner’s pleasure with someone else.

In this workshop, Ruth will share an overview of what jealousy is, what the latest research says about it and help you examine your own relationship with this emotion.

Ruth Ramsay(she/her) is an adult sex educator and coach with a background as a striptease artist and erotic activist. Her dancing and campaigning took her from kink dungeons and Times Square penthouse parties, to care homes and the Houses Of Parliament. She now combines a coaching diploma with her lived experience, supporting clients to deeply understand who they are sexually, what they need, and how to communicate this to partners.
